Large Turnout at Open House Day at the Brandis Biomethane Plant

Brandis, April 18, 2026

Brandis, April 18, 2026. As part of an open house event, VORN Bioenergy invited interested visitors to its biomethane plant in Brandis. The occasion was the Day of Renewable Energies, which takes place every year at the end of April. Together with JUWI GmbH, which operates a large photovoltaic plant adjacent to the biomethane facility, participants were offered a wide range of insights into renewable energy.

Plant manager Christian Grömke and his team guided guests through the facility in small groups throughout the day. They explained the entire biomethane production

process - from the delivery of raw materials and the automatic recording of delivered quantities, storage, and feeding (known in technical terms as charging the digester), through fermentation and post-fermentation, upgrading to biomethane, feeding it into the public gas grid, and processing the digestate into biological fertilizer.

Stations focusing on safety and environmental protection were of particular interest. As participants noted with surprise, there is hardly any odor at the plant. This is ensured by special exhaust air treatment systems consisting of a two-stage wet scrubbing process and a downstream biofilter that removes up to 98% of odorous substances. Visitors were also interested in the water treatment system, which treats silage effluent and surface water in a closed-loop system and feeds it back into the fermentation process.

CO₂ upgrading was another highlight. In this facility, 1,000 kilograms of CO₂ are separated from the biogas each hour and processed so that it can be used in the food industry, for example as carbon dioxide for beverages.

Due to the great success of the open house day and the strong interest shown by the local population, similar events are planned to take place regularly in the future.
